Sergio Ramos arrived at San Pablo Airport in Seville on Monday afternoon to finalize his signing with the Seville club. The Camas native briefly spoke to the media and stated that returning to the club was an outstanding debt to many people: ‘With my grandfather, my father, the Seville fans, and with (Antonio) Puerta.

A free agent since his contract with PSG ended on June 30th, Sergio Ramos reached an agreement with Sevilla this past Sunday to return to the Andalusian club, from which he was transferred 18 years ago to Real Madrid.

Initially, the Andalusian defender seemed destined to move to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, but a last-minute call from Sevilla changed everything. The club had stated during the transfer window that the player was not in their plans despite being a free agent. However, as the transfer window had closed, the player could sign with any club he wanted. Sevilla could only sign free agents at that point and needed a central defender, which was crucial for his return.

Sevilla, which has conceded eight goals in the first three Liga matches, is the only team in the league that has yet to earn any points. Therefore, the signing of Sergio Ramos will bolster a defense that has been weakened due to the long-term injury of Brazilian player Marcao Teixeira.

Upon his arrival in the capital of Seville, Sergio Ramos expressed his excitement and eagerness to return. He also conveyed a clear message about several reasons for his return:

“Yes, I’m excited; it’s a special day. Returning home always is. Now we have to undergo the tests. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a few months, but I’m happy to come back and join as soon as possible. I was looking forward to coming back home. It didn’t make sense for me to go anywhere else without passing through here. It was a debt I owed to my father, my grandfather, the Seville fans, and Puerta, among many things that have meant a lot to me, and I believe this was the right time.
