After Aaron Rodgers’ injury, multiple NFL players have complained about synthetic turf, and now the Chiefs QB and the 49ers WR have done the same.

The debate among NFL players about the playing surface they compete on hasn’t stopped since Aaron Rodgers suffered an Achilles tendon tear, and now the most critical voices about artificial turf come from the league’s new stars.

In an interview with USA Today, Patrick Mahomes, quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, made it clear that his priority is to play on natural grass stadiums because it’s healthier for the players.

“I think it’s pretty simple; the numbers show that natural grass is healthier for players,” said Kansas City’s QB. “I want to play on the best surface that keeps me healthy.

Deebo Samuel, wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, also stated to USA Today that, due to the position he plays, he will always prefer natural grass over synthetic.

“I’m a firm believer in natural grass. Because of the position I play, the movements I make, and how easy it is on the body, the strain on the knees and back, I’d rather play on grass every day,” Samuel said.

Two days after Rodgers’ injury, the Executive Director of the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), Lloyd Howell, issued a statement seeking to have all stadiums in the league equipped with natural grass to prevent future injuries.
