The information about Akshar Patel’s replacement was provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In a media advisory issued by the BCCI, it was stated that the Men’s Selection Committee has included Washington Sundar in the team in place of Akshar. It was further mentioned that Sundar joined the Indian squad in Colombo in the evening.
Akshar Patel showed good form against Bangladesh
In the Super Four match against Bangladesh, Indian all-rounder Akshar Patel displayed good form. He scored 42 runs in 34 balls at number eight with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes. In addition to his batting, he also took 1 wicket while bowling.
Washington Sundar plays all three formats for India. The 23-year-old Sundar has played 4 Tests, 16 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 37 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) so far. While batting, he has scored 265 runs in Tests, 233 runs in ODIs, and 107 runs in T20Is. In addition to his batting, he has taken 6 wickets in Tests, 16 wickets in ODIs, and 29 wickets in T20Is while bowling. Sundar made his international debut in December 2017.
